Building a Code Foundation

(3-day program) The opening industry is built on codes; your education should be built on a code foundation. This course will bring students through scenario-based exercises that will teach them to navigate and apply, building, fire, life safety and accessibility codes. This course covers: NFPA 80 – Standards for Fire Doors and Other Opening Protectives (2016), NFPA 105 – Standard for Smoke Doors Assemblies and Other Opening Protectives (2016), NFPA 101 – Life Safety Code (2018), ICC A117.1 – Accessible and Usable Buildings and Facilities (2009) and IBC – International Building Code (2018).

  1. After participating in this session, attendees should be able to:
  2. Identify the correct code for application on projects.
  3. Locate and navigate required codes and standards affecting door openings.
  4. Interpret and apply the mandated code requirements.
  5. Propose and prescribe the appropriate materials to comply with adopted code.
