FO-04 Inspection Basics

Not ready for a fire door inspection certification course but want to build a strong foundation in fire and egress door inspections? FO-04 Inspection Basics is the perfect starting point.

This instructor-led online course introduces participants to the essential principles of inspecting, maintaining, and understanding fire-rated and egress door assemblies. Through real-world examples, code references, and practical discussions, students will learn why fire door inspections are required, how fire and life safety codes impact building openings, and what to look for when evaluating door assemblies for compliance.

Participants will explore the relationship between building codes, NFPA 80, and fire door inspection requirements while gaining a deeper understanding of common field deficiencies, improper modifications, clearance issues, hardware concerns, and maintenance practices that can compromise life safety. The course also examines acceptable repair methods, code-compliant corrective products, and the responsibilities of building owners and facility personnel in maintaining compliant openings.

Whether you work in facilities management, construction, distribution, manufacturing, maintenance, or life safety compliance, this course provides practical knowledge that can be immediately applied in the field.

After participating in this session, attendees should be able to:

  • Identify the codes affecting fire-rated door opening assemblies.
  • Distinguish between proper and improper installation methods for swinging doors with builders hardware.
  • Differentiate between allowable jobsite preparations and field modifications.
  • Recognize code-compliant corrective products and processes available to bring non-compliant openings back into compliance.

This course serves as an excellent stepping stone for individuals considering advanced fire door inspection training and certification programs.
