    Door Safety Inspector (DSI) Training and Certification Class

    (5-day program) Individuals performing NFPA 80’s door safety inspections need to have a working knowledge of the fire doors they inspect, as well as the code requirements affecting them. Door Safety Inspectors (DSI) exceed NFPA’s Qualified Person standard (for NFPA 80 and NFPA 105) and NFPA 101’s Knowledgeable Person standard for inspecting and testing egress and fire door assemblies. In this course, students will learn from practicing inspectors, how to read and interpret codes and standards, inspect and test openings for compliance, maintenance and mitigation practices and procedures and more.


    The course cost includes all required material, including:

    Door Safety’s Inspecting and Maintaining Swinging Doors Handbook (First edition)

    NPFA 80, Standard for Fire Doors and Other Opening Protectives (2016 edition)

    NFPA 101, Life Safety Code, (2015 edition)

    NFPA 105, Standard for Smoke Door Assemblies and Other Opening Protectives (2016 edition)

    Detailing Basics

    (2-day program) In this course, students will learn the basics of one of the most important industry processes, detailing. Learn to focus in on the details and how to provide the material right the first time. Return to the office with a skill they can be applied right away.

    After participating in this session, attendees should be able to:

    1. Recognize and utilize the tools and materials needed to detail a commercial construction project.
    2. Identify and interpret specification requirements in order to properly detail doors, frames and hardware.
    3. Illustrate doors, frames and components to create shop drawings for approval.
    4. Develop a hardware schedule from architect’s hardware sets and specification.

    Estimating Basics

    (2-day program) Profit is important to every company, big and small. Estimators have an important role when it comes to profitability. In this course, students will build on their understanding of plans and specifications by completing  estimating exercises and bidding a project.

    After participating in this session, attendees should be able to:

    1. Recognize and utilize the tools and materials needed to estimate a commercial construction project.
    2. Identify and interpret specification requirements in order to properly estimate doors, frames and hardware.
    3. Apply discounts and mark-ups to materials.
    4. Submit a qualified bid.

    Fundamentals of Project Coordination

    (1-day program) Project Coordination is critical regardless of the size of your project. In this course, students will learn from industry experts how to coordinate their project requirements with other divisions, how to conduct important meetings, how to read templates and so much more.

    After participating in this session, attendees should be able to:

    1. Recognize the importance of coordination amongst trades on a commercial construction project.
    2. Interpret the contract document requirements for trade coordination.
    3. Create submission packages for use during coordination meetings.
    4. Prepare and participate in organized project coordination meetings such as: key conference, electrified hardware, access control, and pre-installation meetings.

    Course cost includes breakfast, lunch and morning/afternoon snack the day of class.
